EcoVadis and SMETA preparation: questions people actually ask

Straight answers, including the ones where the honest answer is that nobody can tell you.

Can you predict what score we will get?

No, and we would not trust anyone who says they can. EcoVadis’s scoring weights are proprietary and unpublished — we do not have them and do not model them. Our ranking is a work order: which gaps are worth closing first relative to the effort. Your rating is decided by the rating agency alone.

Is your slot list the official checklist?

No. It is our compilation from the frameworks’ published methodology overviews and the ETI Base Code. It is not endorsed by EcoVadis or Sedex and neither has reviewed it. We say this on the pack itself, not just here.

A document does not exist. Should we write one before the assessment?

Write it, date it honestly, and do not backdate anything. A policy dated after the assessment window opened reads as written for the assessment — that is on the failure list. A genuine recent date is a weaker position than a two-year-old policy and a far stronger one than a falsified date.

We have lots of policies. Why does our file still look thin?

Because policy is the cheapest of the three layers and the one companies over-produce. Action needs a procedure plus evidence it was followed; result needs a number with its period, denominator and boundary. Most suppliers are policy-heavy, action-light and result-empty.

Why do two consecutive years of a KPI matter so much?

One number is a snapshot and gets discounted. Two shows a trend, and a trend is what a management system is supposed to produce. If you only have this year, publish it anyway with the baseline named — but start the second year now.

We sent a certificate and it was not accepted. Why?

The most common reason is a missing scope page. The certificate says you are certified; the scope page says which sites and which activities are covered. Without it, nobody can tell whether it covers the thing being assessed.

How long does preparing the file actually take?

First-timers commonly report burning a very large number of internal hours on collation alone. The variable is not writing — it is how long four other people take to send you documents they already have. That is why our guide tells you to start the requests before you start writing.

Our evidence is not in English. Is that a problem?

It is a documented failure mode when there is no translation at all. Translate at least the headline and the dates. Full certified translation of everything is usually unnecessary; leaving the assessor unable to read the date is not.

Does the free check send our answers anywhere?

No. No analytics, no cookies, no network requests once the page has loaded. The whole thing runs on your device.

Is the free check the same as the paid pack?

No, and the difference is bigger here than on our sibling sites. The free check reads twelve questions and tells you where your file is thin by theme and layer. The pack maps all 55 slots against your business, ranks the gaps, names who in your company owns each request, and writes the emails. That is the €490 pack.

Are you affiliated with EcoVadis or Sedex?

No. EvidenceReady is an independent document-assembly service. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or a substitute for EcoVadis, Sedex, SMETA or any rating agency, and those trademarks belong to their owners. We do not conduct audits and we cannot invent evidence you do not hold.
